Age is a Gift

I don't remember when it was or what his full name was what I do remember is the feeling of him not coming back to school. I found out he died due to a stray bullet and that he wouldn't be coming back to school. He died at the age of 15 or 16. I can't remember his age because it has been almost 20 years since his death. So much about this moment is very foggy and I don't remember too much about him. What I do remember is playing basketball in gym class with him. He was the reason why I got so much better at basketball at the first place. We used to talk so much trash whenever he would make a 3 and I would do so as well.
Sadly watching my friends dying would be something I would be getting a used to due to the point I've had many friends die. Some of them were high school friends, family members, famous people, classmates, church members, etc. Some of these were preventable but most of times it was unexpected and sudden. You never know when it's someone's time to go.
Tomorrow is not promised and whether you're turning 18 or 80 be happy that you get to see another day. I know getting old sucks and most people wish they were getting older hell I miss my youth too. However I'm thankful to say that I'm thankful to have my health and to have made it to the 34 as of April 30, 2025. I just hope that someday you can be happy to cherish you age too.
