Rick and Morty was missed potential

This might turn into a Youtube video someday, if it does I'll actually post it on the blog :D. We've covered some interesting topics on this blog but the last blog I published was about how I wanted to write stories. So let me give you not a story because I don't want to do that with Rick and Morty but where I wanted Rick and Morty to go before it went off the rails.

Here's a hot take, I actually like season 3 of Rick and Morty. Right?

Even the Pickle Rick Episode and not for the reason why people dislike it. It's because despite the fact that Rick doesn't respect therapists she is the only that not only understands Rick but owns him. Her very obvious critique of Rick was probably one of my favorite owns in the series and I watched it a few times when I saw it.

But despite that why is Rick the favorite character in the show Rick and Morty despite being the worst character in the show? The hardest thing I feel for people to admit is that media literacy is very difficult for most people.

Despite how Rick treats his family, and despite how damaged and in pain he is a lot of people would still rather be him. Doesn't anyone find that disturbing? I feel part of the reason being is because out of all the people in the show he is the most powerful people in it. And you'd be hard pressed to find an episode that doesn't revolve around him.

Which leads me to talk about season 3. Beth and Jerry's relationship had been on the rocks for most of season 1 and 2 and Rick made a clone in that could do all the things Beth could stay home and take care of her family while she could go back and do the things she always wanted to do. There is only one problem Rick wiped her memories so she thinks she's the real Beth and second problem is he also wiped the real memories of the real Beth so she thinks she is the real Beth.

So this ends up turning into this big chase of Rick trying to avoid both Beth's trying to find each other while one of the other Beth's who is wanted by the Federation is being chased by the Galactic Federation.  So the end of the episode ends with Rick showing a slideshow but the family is so unbothered that they decide they don't care and leave before they even see the show. The episode ends with Rick not even knowing who the clone actually is.

Here is where my change actually comes in I really would have liked it if there were more adventures that didn't include Rick but were more space Beth focused. Wouldn't it be interesting to see what things space Beth was doing and how different she is from her father. I know there wouldn't be a council of Beth's but I feel that's the strength of relying on Beth.

Instead of going on adventures with Rick they'd go on adventures with Beth and do things with her and see where that leads. Whether that could be family trips that go wrong, or just running Beth being confused for the space Beth federation and being under arrest so now she learns of her crimes while the Smiths have to save her. Heck in some of the stories Beth could be an antagonist it's not like Beth is perfect and she has a lot of toxic traits from her father too.

When you rely too much on Rick the multiverse comes into play and things can get very confusing and very diluted and the universe the current universe we leave in becomes smaller and less explored. We focus more on other versions of Rick and Morty instead of the galaxy that we currently live in. I know Rick and Morty isn't a deep show but it's a show that's about relationships and personal growth and if you can focus more on the Rick being center of, how you say, where all the adventure happens. We can tell much deeper and much more interesting stories.
